Epiphany or Revelation?

So, what is the difference?

An epiphany is the sudden realization or comprehension of the (larger) essence or meaning of something.

Revelation is something revealed, especially a dramatic disclosure of something not previously known or realized.  A manifestation of divine will or truth

I can’t decide and it really doesn’t matter….  But this is my discovery, as you can imagine, now that organizing is my profession, I look at my house in a very different light.  Now don’t get me wrong, my house is in order, but it is not as organized as I would like.  Now that may be blasphemous words to my fellow organizers.  But my revelation/epiphany is that I know why and it is the basis of a very important lesson that I need to share with all of you.

We Must ORGANIZE IN PHASES!

I believe that I mentioned before that you must have the support of your household to get organized and stay organized.  If they are fighting against you or if you are trying to force them into something that is unnatural, you all will be extremely frustrated!!!

In order to get my house organized as I would like, initially my family would rebel.  It would be like making them drink from a fire hose.   My husband is just now coming around.  My oldest daughter says that she is going to hire a maid when she moves out (cleaning and organizing are NOT the same).  My youngest daughter is away at college, but let’s just say that she is a LOT like her father.  What is even more interesting is that as our girls became teenagers, my husband did not want me to force them into becoming “neat nuts” like me.  I guess I was a little obsessed.  Now I think he made me back off too far, but I digressed…..

It is interesting how the Lord works…. This is the REAL Revelation/Epiphany, if I had started “Order Your Steps” years ago, I believe that I would have tried to force people to become “organized”, as I defined it.  They would have hated me in the end, because I would have made their lives worsted than when I started and my business would have failed miserably and I wouldn’t have really understood why.

Now I understand that my task is to help, assist, consult with you to organize, understand what phase of organization you need and develop a system that you can maintain and your family will enjoy!  Organizing is a continuous process.  As you progress through the various phases, your organizing system will evolve.  This is not an exact science!

Over the next few posts, we will be identifying what those phases are and we will come up with catchy names for them.  I am excited because I will also be a work in progress.  I will be practicing what I preach.  So from time to time, I will show you my evolution.   I will be horning my craft, enhancing my skills to better serve my customers and show you that it can be fun!

  1. This is so true! A lifelong battle trying to get the kids to keep things tidy & organized. We each have our strong points and weak points, different things we like to keep or throw away, different ways of dealing with space, appearance and functionality. The one thing I always insist on is that the living & dining areas are kept tidy, clean & beautiful for guests. I’m not very organized myself, although I keep trying. I’m looking forward to hearing about your phases.

    • Thanks as always for your comments and your encouraging words! I looking for some catchy names for the different phases, so put on your thinking cap as I try to describe them…. 🙂
