Four months ago, I was asked by a client to organize his massive comic book collection, so that it could be appraised and donated to his alma mater. I vaguely remember the first day that I entered the attic and saw ALL the boxes. Initially, we were going to focus on only the Marvel comic books, which was 85% of all the boxes. As I started to browse, I discovered that in some of boxes the comic books were in numeric order and he had already logged many of them. However, after further investigation, to my dismay, we discovered that # 1, although the comics was logged, we did not know what specific box that the comic was in and # 2, a lot of the boxes had a mixture of all different Marvel characters & others that needed to be sorted.
Today was Appraisal Day! There were 70 boxes of Marvel & Non-Marvel (DC Comics, Image, Dark Horse, etc.) comic books and all the boxes were numbered & labeled by character. OVER 20,000 comic books were sorted in numeric or alphabetical order, duplicates have been purged and the boxes were organized. Ultimately, we developed a Comic Book Guide Sheet by box #, comic book character and a brief description of the contents. The appraiser was able to identify very quickly what he wanted to look at and where it was located. I must say that this project has truly taken my professional organizing skills to a Whole New Level!!
OH MY GOD! The Comic Book Project is Done!
