Tackling Our Closet – Step II – Purging

Are you feeling a tad overwhelmed at the mere thought of “Tackling Your Closet”? Hopefully, you’ve had the opportunity to complete Step 1 of the organizing process, which is Sorting. Today, we are going to work on Step 2, Purging. We will decide what we need to keep and what really needs to go. Although this may be considered the most difficult part of the process, just stick with us and we’ll show you that it’s easier than you think.

It’s Time to ReVamp our closets and we are here to help!

Please let us know if you have any questions as we take this journey together by leaving a comment or you can email me at candy@orderyoursteps.net.

I would love to hear from you.

Tackling Our Closet – Step I

Our overall goal is to show you that the organizing process is fairly simply, although at times, it may appear to be somewhat overwhelming. We will guide you through the entire process, one step at a time. Believe it or not, organizing has only three (3) steps:

  1. Sorting – We will touch every item and separate them into various categories, i.e. tops, bottoms, dresses, etc..
  2. Purging – We will guide the client through the decision-making process (Keep, Donate or Discard)
  3. Organizing – We will find the right place for all items and put the space in Order.

We will begin to tackle our closet by looking at Step 1 – Sorting!

It’s Time to ReVamp our Closets!

Spring is gone and we are deep into the heart of summer. Let’s switch gears and prepare ourselves for the Fall season, the Season of Change! It appears that people will be going back into their offices, although businesses are revisiting their work process to include a virtual option and schools are planned to reopen. With the changing times, some of us may be saying… “I just don’t need all these business clothes any more!” Although that may be true, don’t be too hasty. However, this may be a great time to sort through our closet and make sure that our more casual wear is easily assessible. But for some, it’s may be easier said than done….

Our overall goal is to show you that the organizing process is fairly simply, although at times, it may appear to be somewhat overwhelming. We will guide you through the entire process, one step at a time. After we have organized our clothes, we will be able to face our closets each morning and find what we need, when we need it!

It’s Time to ReVamp our closets from strictly business to virtual casual! But for some, it just may be the opposite, but either way, our closets need our attention and we can help! Please let us know if you have any questions as we take this journey together by leaving a comment or you can email me at candy@orderyoursteps.net.

I would love to hear from you.

A Journey to Order: A Man’s Closet!

Another Journey into being MORE Organized… A Man’s Closet! Recently, I had the opportunity to organize a client’s husband’s closet!  Just for the record, the organizing process is the same, no matter the space….

In my experience, if a man takes pride in his clothes, then I find that their closets are very organized. On the other hand, there are men that would prefer that their closets not be organized, generally speaking…

I welcome your thoughts and comments! ūüėÉ

Let’s Tackle the Closet!

If you have been paying attention, you know that to be “organized” means to be able to find what you need when you need it! ¬†So let’s talk about tackling the closet. ¬†It can be any closet, but I’d like to focus on the clothes closet. ¬†It is the clothes closet that you have to face EVERY morning….

“Let’s Organize Your Closet”

Step 1 РWe must know EVERY item that is in our closet.  Most of us believe that we know every item in our closet.  Do you?  I would venture to guess that you may not know every item in your closet. Some of us may have things in our clothes closet that we forgot were even there.  Is that you?

Step 2 – We must know EVERY item in our closet… which means we MUST touch every item in our closet. ¬†Would someone please move the needle on the record? ¬†LOL!! ¬†But seriously, things get sucked into the black hole of our clothes closets because they get pushed further and further back where we can’t see them, thus we forget that they are there.

Step 3 – Make a decision on EVERY item in our closet… Keep, Donate, Throw Away and make the decision QUICKLY. ¬†If you think about it too long, it is very likely that you will decide to keep it. ¬†To the woman that has the size ___ (fill in the blank) that you are going to fit in again– it’s been¬†5 years¬†—¬†it is time to let it go. ¬†To the man who has that favorite sweater that is two (2) sizes too small, it is time to give it away!

Step 4 – Once we have completely PURGED the entire closet, it is time for us to organize.

Step 5 – So what’s left? ¬†There are tops, bottoms, dresses, jackets, sweaters, pants, shirts, suits, shoes, boots, etc. ¬†Let me suggest that we put “like” items together. ¬†Once we have grouped “like” items, it is up to you to what degree of organization that you want to go — the same color, the same sleeve length, light jackets, heavy jackets, BUT¬†to whatever degree you go, you have to be able to MAINTAIN IT!
