What are your challenges? (A blog post of questions!)

In a recent post, Healing Virtue, I suggested that possibly, clutter and disorder were standing in the way of us achieving our full potential? What’s really preventing us from walking in our destiny?   As we consider, what our challenges may be, I’d like for you to ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you take time, just to feel good about being you?
  • When the last time you did something for yourself, just because it made you happy?
  • Do you wake up full of energy or do you wake up heavy, dreading the day?
  • Do you frown more than you smile?
  • Do you have date nights with your spouse?  Do you just sit and chat about positive or negative things?
  • Is time with the kids always “busy” doing stuff or do you have fun when you are together and if so, how often?
  • Do you have friends or just acquaintances?  Do you have an opportunity to confide in someone that you can trust?

Now, the ultimate question, what will it take to make a difference in our lives? Please share some of your answers or some advice that may help others in the blogsphere.  I would love to create “a blog post of answers” from your contributions!

Some of my fellow bloggers had some answers, suggestions and more questions for us…

Motivation

As some of you may know, I had an ad on Living Social during the month of February and March.  The offer was 2 hours of organizing services for $50. The response was really good, especially with regards to clicks on my website.  So what does that have to do with “motivation”???…. Well, I’m getting to that!  Two (2) hours really isn’t a lot of time to complete an organizing project, so you either want the client to buy additional hours of your services or you want them to be motivated to continue the project without you.  Both are WIN-WIN scenarios!!

There was one client in particular that was given the Living Social voucher as a gift. She had taken the time to make a list of questions for me prior to our visit and was really excited about getting started.  She has a sincere desire to de-clutter and become more organized, but again, we only had TWO hours.  We started our time together by sorting and purging through her dresser drawers.

Here is an excerpt from the email that she sent me after our visit…

Ms. Candy!
I had a great time with you Saturday, I am so glad you came. Thank you for the motivation, I truly needed it. As for separating my work and casual clothes that are folded I think I am going to keep that as is. It’s more important that they are folded up and put away in the drawer.  There were numerous items that we decided to hang in the closet, so the closet became our 2nd area of focus.   I was drawn to the nearest Walmart to purchase those things you spoke of called “skirt hangers”. Those things you called “skirt hangers” really do exist, AND they hang up skirts perfectly! … LOL!!!   :-D.  I purchased 3 skirt hangers that hold 6 skirts each, so I have extra hangers if I purchase more skirts.

I’m even amazed myself on how much we were able to accomplish in 2 hours.  We didn’t have time to work on other areas of her apartment, so she did the kitchen after I left.

I love it when a plan comes together.  My goal is truly to have the client motivated, so that they will de-clutter and organize on their own and maintain it after I leave. This client suggested that I FaceTime with her, every once and a while to check on her progress.  AWESOME IDEA!

I appreciate all your suggestions and motivation. Thank you for helping me declutter my apartment of all the clothes! Everything is on the up and up and I plan to keep it going. Have a wonderful day!

Where is your Clutter?

clutter2150x100There seemed to be a fair amount of interest in The Psychology of Clutter.  Thanks to all of you that took time to comment!   It is interesting to look at a scientific perspective on the effect that clutter has on our mind, our behavior and our overall disposition.  From a spiritual perspective, I have shared more than once how I believe that clutter / disorder has an affect on many aspects of our lives. Order Your Steps has been in existence for almost two (2) years.  It has been a blessing to have a steady stream of clients, although customers have come and gone. We have looked briefly at those individuals that try a professional organizer (PO) and decides not to stick with it, but there are others that have not made the call…

 Are YOU one of them?

If you were to call in a PO for help,

 Where is your Clutter?

I don’t have time!!!!

Have you ever been in the position, where you see  something SO clearly, but very few, if anyone see things the same way you do??

As a professional organizer, I see that people really need my help.  I know in my heart that clutter creates chaos and chaos disturbs the divine order that life should have.  I believe that people understand this, but they CAN’T see it…. THEY JUST DON’T HAVE THE TIME!

I know, I sound like a broken record.  BUT I see it SOOOOOOO clearly!!!  Many of us are in a vicious cycle of Chaos, a state of utter confusion!  Get Up (still ragged out from the day before), Eat (if you have time), Get dressed (if you can find the mate to that shoe or find the pair of socks that match)!

Get the kids ready, Get the kids to school, Go to work, pick up the kids, get dinner, get ready for bed, etc. etc. etc.

Maybe the person that I just described is the exception, NOT the rule. But the folks who realize that they could use some help and call me, they still just don’t have time!!  They are not enough hours in the day…  Can anyone relate?  So where will the time come from???

Is the Junk in your car Junk?

I read a very interesting article and I attempted to send it to all of my blog followers.  But since I am still somewhat technically-challenged, I am not sure what happened to it (so please let me know if you got it and I apologize if this is a duplicate).

The junk inside your car isn’t exactly ‘junk’……It actually says a lot about you!

What’s in your car? Do you have purple fuzzy dice hanging from your rearview mirror? Or is it cluttered with empty water bottles? Well, according to experts, the junk inside your car isn’t exactly ‘junk’……It actually says a lot about you! So here’s what certain types of car clutter say about your personality……Courtesy of Woman’s World Magazine: • First: What if you have a decoration hanging from your rearview mirror? Psychologist Dr. Maximillian Wachtel says hanging something from your rear-view mirror – like fuzzy dice or a stuffed baseball – is a sign that you’re confident. Why? Because the fact that you’re okay telling the world what appeals to you says you’re comfortable with who you are. • Next: What if your car is cluttered with empty water bottles? Psychologist Dr. Tina Tessina says drinking water in the car shows that you’re efficient. Why? Because even though you’re always on the go, you still stay on top of important things – like keeping yourself hydrated. • Also: What if you keep a first aid kit in your car? Obviously, this means you’re safety conscious. But a first aid kit also indicates you like being in control. Dr. Tessina says your first aid kit makes you feel like no matter what happens, you’ll be able to handle it. • And finally: What if you have an angel in your car or an angel bumper sticker? This is a sign of a positive thinker. Dr. Tessina says people who surround themselves with angels, or other symbols of hope and optimism, expect good things to happen, which makes them more positive and more satisfied with their lives. So what if you have fuzzy dice, water bottles, a first aid kit, and an angel in your car? It means you’re a confident person who’s always on top of things, and is ready to handle any situation with positive thinking. It also means you need to clean out your car!
