“Creating a Living Space” – Step 2.5 – Purging and Organizing

Here is the latest episode of our “This is How we Do It’ video series, entitled “Creating a Living Space”.

As you will see, we are turning the bar area into her dresser/vanity.  Therefore, we will be looking for organizers similar to these for her makeup and jewelry.

… and let us know what you think.

Wait in Anticipation and Expectation, NOT in Frustration!

Have you ever been frustrated with God?  You know really frustrated, as it is defined:  Feeling annoyed, especially because of inability to change or achieve something.

For me, it is that point when a situation, seems to linger on and on and on… and on… and I ask God, “So what is it that I’m not getting?”  When I truly believe that I’ve covered all my bases…that I’ve tried to DO everything “right”.  God says, “You really don’t get it, do you?”

Although, my Pastor tells us often, our blessings are not dependent on what we do or don’t do.  If we truly have a heart to live for God, He blesses us because He loves us, like a father loves his child.  But many times, we have to be reminded just how much God loves us.  He would have preferred that Jesus would not have had to die, but it was necessary, so that all of us could be saved.  God would also prefer that we not have to go through many of the things that happen in our lives, but our steps have been ordered!  One of my favorite scriptures says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:11

Our destiny has been predetermined.  So the next time, we get frustrated with God, just remember, it’s all about His divine timing.  It’s not that He doesn’t want to change our situation, it’s just not time… which means that we must WAIT!

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31

No! WAITING is not our most favorite thing to do (understatement!).  However, when we are certain that our situation is gonna change, but we just don’t know when, that’s called FAITH!… and we should be EXCITED!

Therefore, we should always wait in anticipation & expectation, NOT in frustration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it’s a lot easier said, than done, but let’s keep practicing.

Organizing Project Complete!

This project was to organize an entire home, from garage & family room to the upstairs bedrooms.  I met my client at a vending event that I attended to share info about ShelfGenie and Order Your Steps.  She arrived just when the event was beginning to shut down.  She passed by our booth and she said that she really needed to get her home organized.  However, she simply took the info and said that she would call me.  Arline, ShelfGenie franchise owner, said “Did you get her phone number?”  Please understand that God always Orders Your Steps…. I kinda chased her down and got her phone number.  AMAZING!!   A few weeks later, I did her FREE in-home assessment and the rest is history!   😀

She’s been truly AWESOME!  She’s been very patient with me and has worked diligently throughout the entire organizing process. However, at times, it was simply overwhelming for her, but she stuck with it.  Although, there were times that she just couldn’t get her homework done, she was always ready to work when I showed up.

Once motivated, she began doing other improvements to her home, i.e. painting, deck refinishing and replacing patio doors… I mean BIG stuff.  She is living proof that once you start to establish more organization in your home, it promotes an Order to your life were also times that we had an opportunity to discuss her work life…It is all about Order!!

HOORAY!  We have finished the bulk of our project, and now we will need to do some fine tuning to a few areas of her home. We will establish a maintenance program that will enable her to continue what we have started.  Our official project wrap-up was last Friday. It felt like we were closing a major chapter of her life, which I guess we have!  I appreciate how the Lord has allowed me to minister to her during this last few months.  Moving forward, I will check in with her by phone or preferrably a pop-up visit every other week or so.  In addition, we will have a two-hour organizing session once a month and then we’ll just see what happening from here!   😀

Here are a few rooms that we did… Take a Look!!

…. til Death do Us part!

Before writing this post, I took a trip down memory lane.  It is amazing how much can happen in your life in 30 years….  and as a friend of mine always says “To the most casual observer”, it is obvious that the Lord truly Orders Our Steps!  On Monday, March 10th, my husband and I will celebrate our 30th anniversary.

Wedding Post 036This morning, I asked him to sum it up in 3 sentences, but all he said was “We were made for each other” and when you consider the faithfulness of our Creator, it is obvious that we were meant to be…. It is virtually impossible to tell you every thing that has happened over the past 30 years, but I will try to give you just a few highlights!

For my husband, it was love at first sight…. BUT for me, it was not that simple!  I had a LOT of baggage.  However, I began to see just how much he loved me, even if I did not love myself.  He was the first man to ever tell me that I was beautiful!  He asked me to marry him within a month of our first date (Sept. 1983), but I definitely wasn’t ready…

But he hung in there and we were married in 1984!

In January, 1985, we had our first son, Kurt, Jr.  He was 3 months premature and only weighed 1 lb. 8 oz.  He only lived for about a month.  TOUGH, TOUGH, TIME!  But as the years went back, we understood that God had a purpose. “For better or worse”…

Reflecting on happier times, I was already working for Xerox when we met, so we got to travel on Xerox’ dime and ours too. 🙂 We went to St. Thomas, Bermuda, Aruba (Xerox Cruise), Florida (Disney World, Universal Studios), California, Las Vegas…. Wow! I didn’t know that we had been to so many places.

Wedding Post 038

Of course, the most memorable event was when our daughter was born in 1989. There are no words to describe…

And three (3) years later, there was another one…

Wedding Post 041

Marriage isn’t always easy.  We have to work at it every day, especially during those moments, when I simply want to strangle him!

Wedding Post 037

In everyone’s life that are ups and downs, good times and not so good times, joy and pain… When we stood before God, the preachers, our family and friends, we committed our lives to one another. We vowed to love each other, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health… ‘Til Death do Us part!

I believe that with God’s help, we will blessed with 30 more…..

Where is your Clutter?

clutter2150x100There seemed to be a fair amount of interest in The Psychology of Clutter.  Thanks to all of you that took time to comment!   It is interesting to look at a scientific perspective on the effect that clutter has on our mind, our behavior and our overall disposition.  From a spiritual perspective, I have shared more than once how I believe that clutter / disorder has an affect on many aspects of our lives. Order Your Steps has been in existence for almost two (2) years.  It has been a blessing to have a steady stream of clients, although customers have come and gone. We have looked briefly at those individuals that try a professional organizer (PO) and decides not to stick with it, but there are others that have not made the call…

 Are YOU one of them?

If you were to call in a PO for help,

 Where is your Clutter?

Order Your Steps is going on the road… sorta!

It is interesting how my life has evolved and the Lord continues to confirm my true purpose and how Order Your Steps plays a key role in that evolution.  My eyes are being opened to see how I can best utilize all my gifts and talents.  When I graduated high school, I wanted to be a teacher…. now I can teach organizing.   How great is that!!!

During the later part of last year, I started conducting the Order Your Steps“Organizing Made Simple” workshops at Senior Living Facilities.  Then I branched out to locations like Wegmans at Woodmore and Largo/Kettering Public Library, where I introduced “Investing Your Time Wisely!”

Order Your Steps is in the house!!

Order Your Steps is in the house!!

Last week, Order Your Steps had a booth at  the Senior Health and Fitness Day that was held at the Prince George’s County Sporting and Learning Center in Landover, MD. and NOW, we are preparing for the Bowiefest 2013 Home and Health Expo on June 1st.   I hope to see you there!  For more info, please click the link or check out my Facebook page (please “LIKE”, while you are there).

If we would just wait on the Lord, not sitting in idle, but waiting in expectation.  Doors will open as God has promised, and we can walk right in…
