Order Your Steps – First Year(s) in Review

As promised, I wanted to share my own Order Your Steps (OYS), First year(s) in Review!  It has a very AWESOME, yet interesting 2 years. I officially started the business in Sept. 2011 and was able to work at it full time, starting in January, 2012.

Here are a few highlights:

  •  Initially, I worked as an organizer’s assistant and received my first $100 in February, 2012.  No one told me that this job was going to be very labor intensive !  😦

  • On Feb. 27th, I posted my organizing post  with the most “LIKES” and comments.

  • By March, I had three (3) new customers of my own!  My first testimonial…

I called Candy hoping to find someone who could do more than organize a room or closet.  I had a storage unit that I was paying $198.00 a month which was an accumulation of my beloved 19 year old daughter personal affects, along with my parents and my in-laws possessions that I could not keep.  It was an overwhelming emotional task and after 12 years I realized I needed help… To read more Click Here

  • Later in March, I met Arline, Franchise Owner for ShelfGenie of Maryland.  I signed up and became a designer…  The Lord opened doors that may not have been opened otherwise.  Lord, Selling was not in the plan????  But what a great product to add to my OYS portfolio!

  • In June, I posted a personal blog post entitled “My Son Reappeared, BUT…” that had the most “LIKES” and comments.

  • The Lord always provided me with a steady flow of OYS customers. I was so sure that I could work with anyone, but there was only one of them that really showed me that “it’s Business, not Personal! …Refund???”

  • In August, my Xerox checks stopped and RETIREMENT took on a whole new dimension!!!  Thank God, I had my 401K to draw from… but I still don’t have to get out of bed before 9 am, unless I want too.  I am also on track to be able to stop taking my high blood pressure medicine.  There is little or no stress now!!!

  • I conducted my first “Order Out of Chaos” Workshop for Seniors in October at the Vistas in Largo.

2013 has been slow & steady, and Wow! Year TWO is almost over. The Lord has always provided.   For the past few months, I feel that there is about to be an OVERFLOW!  I hear the sound of an abundance of rain, the windows of heaven are already open.  I have sown the seed and harvest is coming!

  • I am on Angie’s List (haven’t signed up for advertising yet!)
  • My profile is on FindMyOrganizer.com
  • I am supporting ShelfGenie in Maryland, my primary territory, Baltimore and soon, I will be taking appointments in DC.
  • I’ve signed up for Living Social and my campaign should be launched in the next month or so.

I am sooo excited about what my third year will hold.  It may not look like much to you, but I am in awe of what God has done.  This is about SO much more than money, it about ministry!

Stay Tuned… There is A WHOLE LOT more to come!

#14 = Spiritual Perfection

perfection

In my last post, I found it very interesting that I purposely listed 14 activities that may be considered opportunities in our lives, especially if we are disorganized.  So why / how did I connect these opportunities to “Spiritual Perfection”?  I must admit that for several moments, I wondered the same thing??  However, these  14 activities are time robbers.  Things that need to change in our lives, so that we will have the time to do other activities that would help us to create more order in our lives.  The things that we may consider small, but do matter!

In my mind, “Spiritual Perfection”, begins (or continues) when we identify our opportunities, our imperfections and allow the Lord to step in to perfect us.  Many times, we try to change things in our lives, on our own … but the Bible says His strength is made perfect in our weakness.   We can’t do it by ourselves.

The Lord will continue to perfect us until He returns … to establish His divine order for our lives as He has ordained.  But we must acknowledge our opportunities, make the time to do what needs to be done and most of all, allow Him to Order Our Steps!

Have a Happy …!!!

“Blog Chill Day” will return next Friday.

Blog Chill Day # 13 – Part 2

I would like to go back to Blog Chill Day # 13 for a moment.  The message in that blog post was that we can ONLY work on ourselves, we can not change the world, well you know what I mean… Many times when are lives are out of order, when things around us are in chaos, when we are in the midst of VERY difficult situations, we believe that the people around us are going to change… The husband or wife will realize that they have hurt us, the boss will understand that he/she are being unfair and unreasonable, the situation or circumstance will just turn around…. But what I have come to realize and most of us should understand is that the person that must change is YOU/ME, whether we are right or wrong.

About five (5) years ago, I hit a real low point, yes I know that it is hard to believe.  I won’t bore you with all the details, but I was in a depression.  You know the story about my son… my mother in law had been with us about 14 years…. I was over 50 (very menopausal) and tired of being taken for granted!!!!!  Yes, the  born organizer was in the midst of CHAOS.  A life without true order was very dark for me. At this point, the only place I could go was to the Lord.  I didn’t like my husband, I was willing to leave my children and as for my mother in law… no comment!

I want you all to pay REAL close attention!  What the Lord showed me was that …….  I had to change!  I kept trying to tell the Lord that I wasn’t the problem and He kept telling me that if I didn’t change THEN my situation wouldn’t change.  I don’t know when it happened, but slowly my perspective started to change.   So what am I saying?? FOCUS on YOU versus them, the situation or circumstance!  Ask the Lord to help you to work on you.  You will be amazed at how your perspective will change.  Now don’t get me wrong, life has not been perfect, but I have a PEACE now that I just cannot describe!!!!!!

A Few Ramblings that you may want to Ponder…

On January 10, my blog will celebrate its’ one year anniversary.  As I look back over the more than 145 posts, I am pondering about what direction the blog should take in 2013.  I have found that there has been a much greater response to posts that have talked about ORDER or Inspiration, versus Organizing.   Now don’t misunderstand, my gift is administration and organizing peoples’ stuff, which is still my passion.  But my purpose & mission is helping people to create ORDER out of Chaos, which is so much, much more!

Other Ramblings…

  • On Saturday, I was sitting at a red light waiting for a funeral procession to pass and the light changed.  It was amazing to me to see the number of people that crossed the procession because they didn’t have five minutes to spare.  We are such an impatient society…. which means we must find a way to slow our pace if only so slightly.
  • I picture the CEO of  a corporation always cool, calm and collected (maybe I watch too much TV :-))  His/Her clothes are always neatly pressed and their shoes and socks always match.  What if they always woke up in a fog, rushing to wolf down that cup of coffee, having to stop at the closet and ponder what they should wear to work today and still make the 7 am meeting?  Many of us are in that role, rather CEO, small business owner, husband, wife, father, mother, etc.  We all must be strategic and plan our daily actions.  Being in the daily fog, makes it difficult for us to direct our steps or to simply be directed???

The steps of a good man [woman] are ordered by the Lord… Psalm 37:23

OrderMySteps

In 2013, Finding Order in Chaos, will focus more consciously on Order as we did in 2012 unconsciously.  To help everyone to actively seek Divine Order  in their lives and  Organizing stuff still playing a key role.  As I was preparing for this post, I googled “Divine Order” and lo and behold, I found a definition by Marsha Burns, which says “the authoritative direction proceeding from God”.  Marsha and her husband author the “Spirit of Prophecy” bulletins, which I have found very enlightening and many times very accurate to the spiritual place I am at the time.  She also wrote as follows:

Divine Order is the flow of the Spirit as we yield to His guidance and direction.  As much as we understanding this concept of God in control, many times when we hear a message or think about order in our lives, we still think about cleaning the garage  and, the enemy would love to beat us up with the tangible things in our lives being in disarray. Divine Order is all about the moving of the Holy Spirit and being unencumbered enough to hear His voice and being flexible enough to go with the flow.

Being in the right place at the right time to accomplish what is before us.

I am looking forward to 2013 being busy, even sometimes hectic for Order Your Steps, yet restful.  I want to just flow with the Spirit and I pray that something I write will help you to find rest in Him also.

Have a Very Blessed and Prosperous New Year!

Financial Planning

retirement

Or Lack Thereof….  I thought that I should add just a few thoughts with regards to “The Dream”.    My reality is that I did not properly plan financially for my retirement.  I understand that if you are my age, we need “MILLIONS” of dollars saved in order to live comfortably when we retire.  In my attempt to be transparent and hopefully, help others, my savings does not even come close to “MILLION” (singular).  My 401K took a beating like many of ours over the past several years and so did many pension funds.

But, as the Lord would have it, I was eligible for the early retirement buy-out when it was offered and I had reached the retirement age in accordance with the guidelines of my company (which by the way, I achieved in Sept., 2011… Coincidence, I think NOT!)  So I will be drawing my pension, but I will have to wait on Social Security… No, I won’t hold my breath!

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not flying solely by the seat of my pants.  I have figured out how much income that I will need to bring in from “Order Your Steps” (more info to come on that).  But although we don’t have any credit card debt, we do still have a mortgage.

So without telling you all my business, I am sure that a LOT of you are thinking… “SHE MUST HAVE FALLEN DOWN AND BUMPED MY HEAD!”

I would love to hear your thoughts and I promise to take the constructive criticism with an open mind  🙂 ……
