What are your challenges? (A blog post of questions!)

In a recent post, Healing Virtue, I suggested that possibly, clutter and disorder were standing in the way of us achieving our full potential? What’s really preventing us from walking in our destiny?   As we consider, what our challenges may be, I’d like for you to ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you take time, just to feel good about being you?
  • When the last time you did something for yourself, just because it made you happy?
  • Do you wake up full of energy or do you wake up heavy, dreading the day?
  • Do you frown more than you smile?
  • Do you have date nights with your spouse?  Do you just sit and chat about positive or negative things?
  • Is time with the kids always “busy” doing stuff or do you have fun when you are together and if so, how often?
  • Do you have friends or just acquaintances?  Do you have an opportunity to confide in someone that you can trust?

Now, the ultimate question, what will it take to make a difference in our lives? Please share some of your answers or some advice that may help others in the blogsphere.  I would love to create “a blog post of answers” from your contributions!

Some of my fellow bloggers had some answers, suggestions and more questions for us…

Organizing My Car …. that doubles as my Office!

I spend even more time on the road these days.  I now cover Prince George’s, Montgomery, Anne Arundel Counties, parts of Howard & Baltimore County and more, in Maryland.  Thus my car now doubles as my office.  I must have everything that I need to do my job with me at all times, whether I am going to an Order Your Steps client’s home to organize their closet or I’m doing a FREE in-home ShelfGenie consultant…. and everything must be easily accessible.

I used Windows Movie Maker to produce my lastest video (my daughter helped a little bit  :-D)… the application was fairly easy to use.  However, it took a lot of time and patience to produce a finished product that I was willing to share….

Please let me know what you think!

Motivation

As some of you may know, I had an ad on Living Social during the month of February and March.  The offer was 2 hours of organizing services for $50. The response was really good, especially with regards to clicks on my website.  So what does that have to do with “motivation”???…. Well, I’m getting to that!  Two (2) hours really isn’t a lot of time to complete an organizing project, so you either want the client to buy additional hours of your services or you want them to be motivated to continue the project without you.  Both are WIN-WIN scenarios!!

There was one client in particular that was given the Living Social voucher as a gift. She had taken the time to make a list of questions for me prior to our visit and was really excited about getting started.  She has a sincere desire to de-clutter and become more organized, but again, we only had TWO hours.  We started our time together by sorting and purging through her dresser drawers.

Here is an excerpt from the email that she sent me after our visit…

Ms. Candy!
I had a great time with you Saturday, I am so glad you came. Thank you for the motivation, I truly needed it. As for separating my work and casual clothes that are folded I think I am going to keep that as is. It’s more important that they are folded up and put away in the drawer.  There were numerous items that we decided to hang in the closet, so the closet became our 2nd area of focus.   I was drawn to the nearest Walmart to purchase those things you spoke of called “skirt hangers”. Those things you called “skirt hangers” really do exist, AND they hang up skirts perfectly! … LOL!!!   :-D.  I purchased 3 skirt hangers that hold 6 skirts each, so I have extra hangers if I purchase more skirts.

I’m even amazed myself on how much we were able to accomplish in 2 hours.  We didn’t have time to work on other areas of her apartment, so she did the kitchen after I left.

I love it when a plan comes together.  My goal is truly to have the client motivated, so that they will de-clutter and organize on their own and maintain it after I leave. This client suggested that I FaceTime with her, every once and a while to check on her progress.  AWESOME IDEA!

I appreciate all your suggestions and motivation. Thank you for helping me declutter my apartment of all the clothes! Everything is on the up and up and I plan to keep it going. Have a wonderful day!

Blog Chill Day # 6

I hope all is well.  It continues to get busy and I am so excited about what the Lord is doing!  I am going to stop apologizing for not writing a post, but just know that I will keep in touch.  I hope to have pictures of some of my recent accomplishments as well.

Today is an inspirational post and as always The Word comes to me first.  This is a very exciting and enlightening time for me.  I am enjoying the blessings of the Lord, but at times, it is somewhat unsettling.  I shared with my Pastor today that I felt this rumbling in my spirit and he told me to “Rest in the Lord”.  Although I did take a moment or two, to try to explain ….  then when we got home, my husband and I continued to discuss “my rumblings” at great length…. BUT then I decided just to go to the scriptures.

If you are a little unsettled in your spirit right now, here’s a Word for Us!

…. til Death do Us part!

Before writing this post, I took a trip down memory lane.  It is amazing how much can happen in your life in 30 years….  and as a friend of mine always says “To the most casual observer”, it is obvious that the Lord truly Orders Our Steps!  On Monday, March 10th, my husband and I will celebrate our 30th anniversary.

Wedding Post 036This morning, I asked him to sum it up in 3 sentences, but all he said was “We were made for each other” and when you consider the faithfulness of our Creator, it is obvious that we were meant to be…. It is virtually impossible to tell you every thing that has happened over the past 30 years, but I will try to give you just a few highlights!

For my husband, it was love at first sight…. BUT for me, it was not that simple!  I had a LOT of baggage.  However, I began to see just how much he loved me, even if I did not love myself.  He was the first man to ever tell me that I was beautiful!  He asked me to marry him within a month of our first date (Sept. 1983), but I definitely wasn’t ready…

But he hung in there and we were married in 1984!

In January, 1985, we had our first son, Kurt, Jr.  He was 3 months premature and only weighed 1 lb. 8 oz.  He only lived for about a month.  TOUGH, TOUGH, TIME!  But as the years went back, we understood that God had a purpose. “For better or worse”…

Reflecting on happier times, I was already working for Xerox when we met, so we got to travel on Xerox’ dime and ours too. 🙂 We went to St. Thomas, Bermuda, Aruba (Xerox Cruise), Florida (Disney World, Universal Studios), California, Las Vegas…. Wow! I didn’t know that we had been to so many places.

Wedding Post 038

Of course, the most memorable event was when our daughter was born in 1989. There are no words to describe…

And three (3) years later, there was another one…

Wedding Post 041

Marriage isn’t always easy.  We have to work at it every day, especially during those moments, when I simply want to strangle him!

Wedding Post 037

In everyone’s life that are ups and downs, good times and not so good times, joy and pain… When we stood before God, the preachers, our family and friends, we committed our lives to one another. We vowed to love each other, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health… ‘Til Death do Us part!

I believe that with God’s help, we will blessed with 30 more…..
