What are your challenges? (A blog post of questions!)

In a recent post, Healing Virtue, I suggested that possibly, clutter and disorder were standing in the way of us achieving our full potential? What’s really preventing us from walking in our destiny?   As we consider, what our challenges may be, I’d like for you to ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you take time, just to feel good about being you?
  • When the last time you did something for yourself, just because it made you happy?
  • Do you wake up full of energy or do you wake up heavy, dreading the day?
  • Do you frown more than you smile?
  • Do you have date nights with your spouse?  Do you just sit and chat about positive or negative things?
  • Is time with the kids always “busy” doing stuff or do you have fun when you are together and if so, how often?
  • Do you have friends or just acquaintances?  Do you have an opportunity to confide in someone that you can trust?

Now, the ultimate question, what will it take to make a difference in our lives? Please share some of your answers or some advice that may help others in the blogsphere.  I would love to create “a blog post of answers” from your contributions!

Some of my fellow bloggers had some answers, suggestions and more questions for us…

…. til Death do Us part!

Before writing this post, I took a trip down memory lane.  It is amazing how much can happen in your life in 30 years….  and as a friend of mine always says “To the most casual observer”, it is obvious that the Lord truly Orders Our Steps!  On Monday, March 10th, my husband and I will celebrate our 30th anniversary.

Wedding Post 036This morning, I asked him to sum it up in 3 sentences, but all he said was “We were made for each other” and when you consider the faithfulness of our Creator, it is obvious that we were meant to be…. It is virtually impossible to tell you every thing that has happened over the past 30 years, but I will try to give you just a few highlights!

For my husband, it was love at first sight…. BUT for me, it was not that simple!  I had a LOT of baggage.  However, I began to see just how much he loved me, even if I did not love myself.  He was the first man to ever tell me that I was beautiful!  He asked me to marry him within a month of our first date (Sept. 1983), but I definitely wasn’t ready…

But he hung in there and we were married in 1984!

In January, 1985, we had our first son, Kurt, Jr.  He was 3 months premature and only weighed 1 lb. 8 oz.  He only lived for about a month.  TOUGH, TOUGH, TIME!  But as the years went back, we understood that God had a purpose. “For better or worse”…

Reflecting on happier times, I was already working for Xerox when we met, so we got to travel on Xerox’ dime and ours too. 🙂 We went to St. Thomas, Bermuda, Aruba (Xerox Cruise), Florida (Disney World, Universal Studios), California, Las Vegas…. Wow! I didn’t know that we had been to so many places.

Wedding Post 038

Of course, the most memorable event was when our daughter was born in 1989. There are no words to describe…

And three (3) years later, there was another one…

Wedding Post 041

Marriage isn’t always easy.  We have to work at it every day, especially during those moments, when I simply want to strangle him!

Wedding Post 037

In everyone’s life that are ups and downs, good times and not so good times, joy and pain… When we stood before God, the preachers, our family and friends, we committed our lives to one another. We vowed to love each other, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health… ‘Til Death do Us part!

I believe that with God’s help, we will blessed with 30 more…..

Spring Cleaning in the Winter?

Google Search

Google Search

Spring is ONLY 38 days away and if it appears that I am in hurry to see Spring…. I AM!  😀

However, in my neck of the woods, winter will probably linger.  It “snowed” yesterday and the sun’s out today, but 1 to 22 inches of snow is in the forecast for the rest of the week.  It is always during this time of the year that I recall the  final preparations for my wedding day.  My wedding anniversary is March 10, and the Thursday before, almost thirty years ago… It SNOWED, no REALLY, snowed!  But by my wedding day, the snow was practically all gone and the sun was shining.  GO FIGURE!!

Winter gives the earth a deep cleansing and kills the germs in the air… BUT Spring is a season of rebirth, rejuvenation, resurrection and regrowth.  March 20th will be here before we know, so why not start preparing for our period of renewal and Order right now.

Now I wouldn’t suggest that you do this…

But I would suggest that we map out a “Spring’s Comin” plan.  We have 38 days and counting to get ready.

  • Days 1 thru 15 Assess your space and determine three (3) major areas that require spring cleaning first and allot ample time to complete.  Assign small tasks to complete over time.  Write down the plan and post it.  Technically, we will have 3 months to get it done.  (yes, I understand that we still have lives, that why I suggested only 3… :-D)
  • Days 16 thru 30Find two (2) small areas that need to be organized (yes, there is a difference between clean & organize…).  Then let the sort & purge process begin.
  • Days 31 thru 38 Get the family to participate.  Review the plan with them and get their support & buy-in (even under duress :-D)…. and absolutely, have a BIG party when it’s done.  Have fun with it!

It’s February, Already!

Back in December, which seems so long ago now…. We talked about getting ready for 2014 and the need for us to lay out a plan to achieve our dream, Big or Small!!  Well, it’s February already and I am checking to see how the plans are going.  I suggested that we jot down 2-3 things that we really wanted to accomplish this year. Now that 32 whole days have passed… How Goes It??

We must always keep our eyes on the prize or we will lose sight of our goals.  Our path may become real foggy.  Yes, I know that it is still early, so may I suggest that we at least glance at the plan and just make sure that we are heading in the right direction.  It is so VERY easy to get caught up into the day to day routine and before we know it, it’s September and we are saying, “Well there’s always next year!”

NO, not again!  Let’s make this year different.  2014, the Year of Double Completion, we can accomplish TWICE as much! Double for our Trouble… We will be BLESSED twice as much…  Double Spiritual Perfection… in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.  Hebrews 6:11b-12 NLT

We can accomplish GREAT things by simply taking one step at a time.  Yes, Our Steps are Ordered!

Are you making progress??  I am sure that your story will encourage others or you may need our encouragement to Don’t Give Up!  Your dream is closer than you think.   Please share….

OYS on the Road in 2014!

Order Your Steps (OYS) had its first excursion for the year 2014.  I’ve been very excited about presenting “Organizing for the New Year” to the Sisters Network of Prince George’s County.  I met their president, Madeline Long-Gill last year at a community event in Forestville and I have looked forward to this workshop ever since.  The Sisters Network is a survivorship for women who have HAD breast cancer or those who may still be going through chemo.  There was so much inner strength in the room that you could feel it.  It was truly awesome to be in the presence of God’s Grace in its Abundance!!   I had asked the Lord beforehand to send His healing virtue before I got there and He did.

Below you will find my FIRST Youtube video.  Please take a moment to check it out! You may wonder why my back was to the camera, but don’t ask 🙂…. please listen to my presentation and tell me what you think!

Ramblings on What’s ahead for Me in 2014…

First, I must say that it’s amazing to look at your life through the eyes of God’s Grace… for the last 3 years or more, I have entered a new year with much anticipation and I have looked at the year that I have left behind, with a sense of calm & peace. Now don’t misunderstand, the previous 20+ years had been “Thank God I don’t have to do that again!”  But for the past few years, my only real challenges have been my son … and my finances (from my skewed perspective!).  See the Lord has always provided for us financially.  There’s always been a ram in the bush!  Our needs have been graciously met; we have always had shelter and food on the table … BUT, I would prefer not to live from paycheck to paycheck.  So I have asked God for an over-abundance (and not just financially) and He has asked me to wait until it’s my season!  I know that God wants me to trust Him with my whole heart.  Money, or the lack thereof, seems to always keep me a little unsettled, thus it continues to be my area of opportunity.  As far as my son goes, I have finally, finally turned him over to the Lord and now I am truly letting God handle it.  I am patiently waiting from my son’s deliverance and I refuse to interfere.

Now on to 2014… With each new year, I want to grow spiritually, walk in my purpose and always seek to get better and better at what I do.  2014 is no exception!  Order Your Steps continues to grow as more and more doors are opened. Many of those doors have been opened via ShelfGenie and for that, I am truly grateful.  However, there are four (4) major objectives that I would like to accomplish this year:

  1. Write an eBook entitled “It’s more about Order, than Organizing”.  I even have the dedication written.  I want to do a compilation of my best posts and put them into book form.  I would love to be able to offer some type of product(s) with my other professional organizing services.
  2. I would like to do more speaking engagements.  I have three (3) different “Order Out of Chaos” presentations prepared and I can customize them to suit the group that I am speaking to.  This may require a new marketing strategy, more networking, etc.
  3. I want to further my education by taking the certified professional organizing courses, which I wasn’t going to do initially.  However, now that I am going into my 3rd year of business, I believe that it would be an added benefit.
  4. Research the qualifications to become a certified Life Coach and begin to map out a path to add this skill to my business portfolio.

So I practice what I preach… I have identified and documented my 3-4 BIG objectives.  I believe that they all are realistic and achievable.  Now I must outline the specific actions needed, time-frames and deadlines to reach my goals.

As we journey toward our dreams, I have promised to keep an eye on you and I will keep you posted on my progress as well.

I am so excited!!

How about you?

Now we gotta have Faith!!

I re-read the story of Mary and it really doesn’t say that she endured a lot of trouble, but we can just surmise.  An angel came to Joseph to explain that his wife had not betrayed him. Thank the Lord!  But, what’s interesting is that Mary accepted her assignment, although she didn’t totally understand it all.  Whether it troubled her or not, she had the Faith that God was going to do what He said that He would do.

We too have our assignment for the coming year.  God has promised us that He is going to meet ALL our needs.  He has told us that we shouldn’t worry about Nothing.  We already know that there is nothing Impossible with God… and ALL things work together for our good.  I speak prophetically that in 2014, we should expect Double for our Trouble! We have a game plan.  We are going to identify our goals (2 or 3 major ones, and pray about them), break ’em down into bite size pieces and reward ourselves for our accomplishments along the way… and most of all, we must ADD Faith!!  It is all for naught, if we don’t believe that we will receive what God has promised!
