The Birth Your Dream Event Series Backstory

MP FB event cover 505x266As you may or may not know, the Lord has had me in a season of obedience, since 2018.  In May, I hosted my first Ordering Your Steps (OYS) women’s workshop, entitled “A Mother’s Perspective”.  I must admit that it was a struggle initially, because being who I am, I wanted to control all the details and I had my own expectation of the outcome.  However, my lesson in obedience required just the opposite.  I had to listen to the Lord’s direction and allow Him again to Order My Steps!  Let’s just stay that the event was very interesting.  In my eyes, I can’t honestly say it was successful, but I am confident that it was just what God had planned.   In September of the same year, I began writing Order, Organize & Obedience, another very interesting experience, one I’ll never forget.  Ultimately, what God revealed to me, had nothing to do with the book itself.

DYM graphic 800x800-02In 2019, my 2nd Annual OYS event, “DeClutter Your Mind” was absolutely AMAZING!!  This time, I found it much, much easier, just to let God do what He does best.  He orchestrated every moment, from the idea to the event itself.   The Lord began to show me more and more about how the overall mission of Order Your Steps is evolving into more than just the opportunity to minister to individuals one on one, but to have the opportunity to reach women in many other areas of life.

Then around the middle of last year, I was asked to accept the position of president of our Business and Professional Women’s Federation (BPWF) for the DC Jurisdiction of our church.  The mission of the BPWF is to strive to provide business minded women with an opportunity to put their professional abilities to work to achieve their dreams and God-given purpose.  This was right in line with what the Lord has shown me as He expands my role as owner of Order Your Steps, to reach even more women.

Jakes.  He was talking about how the Lord will show us our dream or purpose, but we must do the work to achieve it.  “The Door is Open but You Gotta PUSH”!  He used the analogy of a woman giving birth and although the womb in open, we must push really hard to birth our baby.  By the same token, we must push really hard to birth our dream.  The Lord continued to impress upon me to share with my audience, who are primarily women, the idea of putting forth all of our efforts, through the pain, frustration or disappointments, to birth what He has put in us.

BirthDream-01

As a result of the Lord’s prompting, in April, we will host our 3rd Annual Ordering Your Steps Women’s Workshop, entitled “Birth Your Dream”.  This workshop will focus on tapping into our God Given gifts and talents that just waiting to burst through, those things that God has put in us that are waiting to be birthed.  Whether a promotion, a thriving ministry, starting a new business, etc., we must acknowledge the Lord as the true owner of our career, business or ministry and view ourselves as just a steward over it.   We want this event to spar and ignite the participants to take at least one step closer to their goal, dream and purpose.

In January, 2020, I was reading my daily devotional from the Spirit of Prophecy bulletins by Marsha Burns and this is what it said:

Expansion is the order of this season.  You can reach higher, go deeper and search wider to know Me more intimately and to accomplish that what is set before you, says the Lord.  Refuse to allow a sense of not being capable to cripple your efforts.  Go forth with courage and expectation.

Isaiah 54:2 “Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.”

Once I read this, I soon realized that what began as one event, would become a three-event series.  Again, the Lord has orchestraed every moment according to His plan.  Therefore, in the works is a July 18th “Live Your Dream” networking event, which will be an opportunity for all current and potential entrepreneurs to get to know each other.  This will be a chance for us to share our successes and lessons learned.  It is critical that we support each other and not compete with one another. We are much better together!  Then on October 10, we will host the BPWF Women’s Conference entitled “Pursue Your Dream”.  Stay tuned for the AMAZING details that are evolving as we speak

We are sooooo super excited about what the Lord is doing through us.  We will keep you posted as we proceed.  Tickets for our Birth Your Dream April event will go on sale on February 15th, in only two more days.  You don’t want to miss it!  We hope to see you there…

Where Have You Been????

34839555_sIt truly seems like forever since I published a blog post.  I am sure that many of you thought that I had taken my brand new Ford Edge and rode off into the sunset…. But No, I’m still here, four (4) whole months later, with close to 10,000 miles on my not-so-new vehicle and I am still not sure what to write.  With July right around the corner, the last six (6) months are a blur….

At this point, I must say that God has been good.  No Complaints!  I have obviously covered a lot of ground, with 10,000 miles in four months.  However, there have been no relaxing vacations or long, leisurely trips.  But family is healthly, a little wealthier and a little wiser.

There is one thing that I would like to share.  Recently, I read, “The Circle Maker”: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears by Mark Batterson.  I couldn’t begin to tell you how much of an impact the book has had over me, but as a result of reading it, I have made my BIG dream even BIGGER. I’ve circled with prayer, “Speight Enterprises”, a multi-million dollar ministry/business.  Speight Enterprises is a conglomerate of Order Your Steps, Inked Designs, Speight Security and Lara Sean’s (aka Myiesha’s) bookstore & cafe. Our multi-million dollar building is an old warehouse that will be converted to also house; penthouse apartments, an art gallery, a fitness center, etc. etc. etc.  Our building is out there and we are already looking for it, so that we can circle it, like the city of Jericho.

The secret of a really BIG dream is that it is birthed by our God-given desire.  Our sole purpose in life, is to bless others by all that we do and make sure that all the Glory belongs to God.  Some of us have seen our vision very vividly, but for some, the vision is still a little blurry.

Well, I guess that I had something to say after all.  I can’t promise that I will post more often, but let me leave you with this… DREAM REALLY BIG and DON’T DOUBT … and don’t allow anyone to doubt you or your ability to accomplish your dream.

It was really nice chatting with you again and I do promise to keep in touch!

“Order Out of Chaos” FREE Workshop, Now Open to the Public**

I thought that I would give you an update on my FREE “Order Out of Chaos” Workshops.  Initially I focused on the senior citizen living facilities.  The participants were open to sharing their own struggles with getting organized, especially after downsizing from their much larger homes.  My presentation, “Organizing made Simple” was only 30 minutes and then we had a Q&A session.  I thoroughly enjoyed them.  I’d always wanted to teach, so now I get to teach, organize and teach about organizing!!!

In February, the “Order Out of Chaos” FREE workshop was OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.  Along with the owner of the local franchise of ShelfGenie, we decided to conduct the workshops as part of a LifeStyle Transitions Series.  Arline and I, as small business owners in our community, wanted to do something for the community that would have a positive impact.  Organizing will be a common thread throughout the workshops, as it pertains to healthy living, nutrition, exercise and just getting your life in order.  Our first workshop in the series was held at Wegmans in Woodmore/Lanham, MD.  Unfortunately, Wegmans has a very strict policy prohibiting advertising on the premises, so we advertised on Facebook and via the ShelfGenie newsletter, flyers, etc.  We had a small turnout, but I believe that I prefer small.  It’s better when I can interact with the audience and that are able to interact with each other.  I believe that moving forward will we limit the attendance to each session to thirty 30 people.  Soooooo… due to the overwhelming response (the show being SOLD OUT), I will have to add a session or two or three…..

Our next workshop is entitled “Spending Your Time Wisely”,   We will focus on time management tips.  It will be held on the last Saturday in March at one of the local libraries … where we can hand out flyers! 🙂

Stay Tuned for more info throughout the month.

Please PASS THE WORD to all your family and friends

in the DC, Md. and N. Va.!!

Planning for 2013

It is during this time of year, if not sooner, that I start to think a lot about the new year that is quickly approaching.  It is the time that I not only look forward to what’s coming, but I reflect on the year that has passed.

It is interesting that when December comes, it just feels that the year has swished by…. but it really hadn’t.  So I want to just share a few thoughts that are on top of my brain at the moment.

2012

Truly a year of blessings and God’s unmerited favor granted upon me and my family!!

  • My son reappeared after two years with his biological father, but has disappeared again.
  • Retirement after 32 years and started my own business, Order Your Steps!
  • Finding Order in Chaos Blog created & first published and as a result, I have met and becomes “blogsphere” friends with so many interesting people from all over the world.
  • The Lord brought so MANY people across my path this year, just so His light could shine.

and I could go on and on and on and on…..

  • Revisit my goals & objectives, both personal & professional, and determine what I accomplished and what I didn’t and why.
  • Rewrite my To Do list, so it looks neat and legible… OK, some OCD tendencies I have not let go of yet!  🙂
  • Look at what I want / need to do differently in 2013 and make the necessary adjustments to my goals and objectives.
  • Modify my action plan, as needed.

Let’s not dwell on what we didn’t get done, but on those things that we did…

Continue to expect God’s Blessings and Unmerited Favor

and Simply Enjoy Life, one day at a time!

Organizing Tip for Today!

Another aspect of personal organizing is “Time Management”…  No, I can’t give you more hours in the day, nor can I make the work go away… But by modifying your work process, re-organizing your office or workspace, may allow you to be more effective and less stressed! … You may be surprised to find that you have a little “extra” time to just sit back and breathe….

Maybe a little TOO clean, but you get my point! (NWI.COM)

Congratulations on 3 Whole Months!!

co2partners.com

While I was running my “Name the Phase” contest, My blog and I celebrated Our 3rd Anniversary!!!  A LOT has happened over the past three (3) months.  It really doesn’t seem like it has been 3 months.

So let’s go back a little further and recap what has happened….

  • I wrote down my dream for Order Your Steps in August, 2010.
  • I made it official when I registered the name of my new business / ministry in Sept., 2011
  • I applied for early retirement from Xerox in Nov., 2011 (based on a buy-out that was offered that I became eligible for on Sept. 20th of the same year!)
  • I officially retired on December 30, 2011, after 32 years with Xerox.
  • I wrote my first blog post on January 10, 2012

Believe it or not, I was not a social networker (is that the correct term?), I didn’t even have a Facebook account until last year.  But I now have a Facebook page (with the help of my daughter).  Please stop by and take a look and I hope you “LIKE” it.  I have Facebook fans from all over the US.   I have a new website  and a blog, which is my favorite.  I had always said that at some point I would write a book about my life (kinda jokingly) and I am sure that this is the closest that I will get at the moment.  But I was reminded after I read another blog, that my life is now open for the entire world to see.  People from many different countries have read about me.  Places like UK, New Zealand, Australia, etc.  I have exceeded 1700 hits, which is a LOT for me.  My daughters have a blog,  The Junoesque and they have about 6 times as many hits for the same timeframe, but I don’t care…LOL!!  After the first few weeks, I must admit that I wasn’t sure if I had an audience, but for true, it really didn’t matter.  This was for me and I am truly, truly enjoying writing my posts.  I have almost 90 blog followers and I have over 100 Likes…. AWESOME!

I started my blog by sharing just a few tidbits of my Order & Chaos in Corporate America.  Now, three (3) months later, the favorite post was Life Lesson.  Xerox has been such a HUGE part of my life.  Then I transitioned into Life after Xerox and “Order Your Steps”, the order out of chaos, into the world of organization.  Your favorite “Organizing” post was Thought from a Cluttered Mind”.  For some, I am still trying to get everyone (men & women) to grasp the concept that disorder, clutter, being unorganized, etc…. does create stress, added fatigue and frustration to our lives every day.  But I am going to keep working at it!

By any chance, do you know this person? ….. Where did all this junk come from?

I need a change quick!  Will organizing my closet really change my life?

I am so stressed!

I am Living My Dream, doing something that comes natural to me … organizing is my gift and my passion.  I have an opportunity each and every day to help people to actually change their lives.

This has been quite a journey so far and it has only just begun!

The Certification

Hope you enjoyed my little segway blog post, “Purely Random” and it was really random…

Back to the Certification, the day of  was extremely nerve-racking, to say the least.  Our two-inch 3-ring binder was complete with colorful dividers and creative title pages.

The people had been quizzed and quizzed some more, and we were ready.  The managers and I gathered in the conference room to be tested for several hours.  We had to prove that we knew what we knew and did what we said.  But at some point during the process, the examiner seemed somewhat agitated with our responses.    The atmosphere became rather tense.

AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

What is happening here?  I planned this whole thing out and this was going to be the icing on the cake… Although this was a new process, I anticipated a rather calm, smooth “testing” session??

Needless to say, we didn’t fare so well….
